The Graduate Certificate in Biblical Preaching has been postponed for Fall 2023. Applications will be open for Fall 2024.

Heritage Theological Seminary is pleased to offer a five-course program entitled Graduate Certificate in Biblical Preaching. It is designed for pastors who want to take their preaching to the next level. Courses are offered three times a year— Fall, Winter and Spring.

Each course will consist of two days of instruction, with a third day marked out for student sermons. Class sessions for most courses will be held live on campus with a live stream option for those at a distance. Then, over the next several months, students will video and upload sermons preached in their churches in order to receive personalized feedback from Heritage via online preaching professors. Each student will develop a personal growth plan (PGP) that will guide the journey through the five courses.

All five courses can be taken for credit, and can be applied to any of the graduate certificates, diplomas, or masters degrees that Heritage Seminary offers.

Features of the Program

1. Respected Preaching Professors:

Each course will feature a preaching professor recognized for his effectiveness in expository preaching. All professors understand the rigours of weekly preaching in a local church setting.

2. Personal Growth Plan:

Heritage staff will assist each student in developing a Personal Growth Plan (PGP) that identifies specific areas for growth in both content and delivery. This customized plan will help students focus their efforts and leverage their learning in the classes.

3. Integration of Classroom & Church:

Students in the program will use their regular preaching schedule to coincide with the classes and required posted sermons. In this way, students can fulfill church preaching responsibilities and class assignments at the same time.

4. Multiple Sermons, Ample Feedback:

In most courses students will post three sermons. Feedback will be given from classmates and from Heritage’s online professors. This mix of self, peer, and professor review will assist the student’s development by providing specific and constructive evaluation.

5. Transfer-ability:

The Graduate Certificate in Biblical Preaching can be completed in two years, and can be rolled into a MTS degree, MDiv degree, or Graduate Diploma in Pastoral Studies.

Job Prospects:

This certificate is meant to enhance preaching skills by pastors in various roles: Lead, Associate or Youth.
