Honouring Dr. Stan Fowler

Professor Emeritus of Theological Studies, Dr. Stanley K. Fowler, passed away on August 26th, 2025. We are grateful for the remarkable impact that Stan made on his students, colleagues, pastors, and fellow believers as he informed and brought clarity to complex theological issues for the Canadian Church.

Dr. David Barker worked alongside Stan as a fellow faculty member at Heritage College and Seminary for almost 30 years and was given the opportunity to share a tribute about Stan at his funeral on September 6th, 2025. He shares: “[Stan’s] faith in a sovereign, wise, caring, loving, and gracious God never wavered. Dr. Stanley K. Fowler, esteemed colleague and friend to so many of us. Teacher, author, sage, pastor, and lover of God. Truly, a theologian in service of the church.” You can read David’s entire funeral tribute to Stan HERE.

Dr. Michael A.G. Haykin, who was an academic colleague with Stan at Central Baptist Seminary in Toronto and at Heritage, recently wrote an article for The Gospel Coalition Canada that recounted his memories and deep appreciation for Stan: “I know of no one who will be able to fill Stan’s shoes in this regard in Ontario in our deeply divided and contentious day. There have been a number of times I have thought to myself, ‘O that Stan’s voice could be heard on this matter.’ But in hindsight, his giving of himself to the leadership of Heritage has proven to be utterly vital for the school’s present flourishing.” You can read Michael’s article HERE.
