Money in Scripture

God speaks a great deal about money in the scripture. God’s first five words in His letter to us were, “In the beginning, God created…”

What does this mean?

• He has ownership rights on everything.
• He has ownership rights on us.
• He has ownership rights on all that we have…including money.

Serving Christ through our finances will look differently for each of us. There are over 2,350 verses in the Bible dealing with money and possessions. God has underscored the importance of stewardship of His resources.

Psalm 24:1

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world and all who live in it.”

2 Corinthians 9:7

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your hearts to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Proverbs 3:9

“Honour the Lord with your wealth, with fruits of all your crops.”

Matthew 6:20-21

“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart is also.”
