Heritage is excited to welcome graduates and friends of the school to our Cambridge campus to celebrate 30 years of the college and seminary during our Family Fun Fair happening Saturday, June 24 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The day aims to be an exciting day for alumni of Heritage, Central, and London to reconnect with old friends and their families to come and enjoy a variety of fun activities planned for the day. Plus, there will be live music performed by different alumni members of the past to entertain throughout the event, followed by a delicious catered barbecue dinner.

This September, Heritage Theological Seminary will launch two new programs to continue its mission to help our students major in the Word of God so that they can help churches make a world of difference wherever God calls them to live and serve Him.

The seminary will now accept applications for its new Graduate Certificate in Chaplaincy and the first of two Ministry Certificates starting in Fall 2023.

Ministry Certificate I

The Ministry Certificate exists to equip more students who serve in paid, volunteer, or bi-vocational leadership roles or those in the local church who want to grow in their knowledge of God and His Word. The two certificates have been developed specifically to give students a practical, theological education who have a deep desire to serve or lead in their local churches yet may not be able to pursue a formal seminary degree for various reasons.

In each class, students will have the opportunity to receive biblically sound theological teaching from Heritage Theological Seminary’s respected faculty. As they learn through weekly lectures, each student will continue their growth as they complete hands-on, ministry-focused assignments. Classes will also be delivered online, allowing students to finish the program without leaving their local context.

Graduate Certificate in Chaplaincy

To equip those currently involved in chaplaincy ministry or looking to serve as a chaplain with a particular organization or community setting, Heritage Theological Seminary will launch its new Graduate Certificate in Chaplaincy in the Fall of 2023.

This five-course Graduate Certificate aims to provide those in the program with practical, relevant teaching that will prepare its students to encourage deep, meaningful, and lasting change in others as they share the love of Christ in their chaplaincy ministry. Each class will look at the biblical foundations for chaplaincy and the ethics of this ministry while looking at other topics like the ministry of presence, spiritual care intervention for those who are sick, dying or bereaved, and more.

Come and discover Heritage this March Break!

Heritage is excited to welcome students to campus who are interested in coming to Heritage over the March Break. We have two special events planned to allow students to experience life as a college student at Heritage firsthand and learn more about our programs.

On March 14-15, students are welcome to join us on campus for our next Student Sampler. During these events, students will get the chance to stay a night in residence, meet and connect with current students, eat in the cafeteria, take part in class, and experience what it is like to learn and grow as a college student at Heritage.

If you want to come to campus for the day, you can also attend our Tour Day on Thursday, March 16. Over the day, students will get the chance to sit in on a class with Drs. Rick and Linda Reed, attend chapel, tour campus, and learn about our programs. Plus, parents are welcome to join their students during Tour Day.

Each event gives students the unique opportunity to see what it is like to learn at Heritage but also see what it is like to grow in a Christian community as you study. Also, students will get the chance to learn more about all of our programs—from our one-year certificate programs like The SERVE.experience and our Certificate of Christian Studies, as well as our other diplomas and Bachelor’s degree options.

The experience of living out one’s Christian faith in Canada has changed over the past several years.

One person that has seen this progressive shift firsthand is Bruce J. Clemenger, Senior Ambassador and President Emeritus of The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC). During his 30-plus years serving with the EFC, 20 years as President, and through his firsthand work on Parliament Hill and his supervision of over 60 court cases, Clemenger witnessed the cultural and societal shift in the way Christianity is viewed in Canada and the influence it has on the nation.

This shift towards what he describes as a new orthodoxy in Canada has and will continue to impact the way Christians today live as a beacon of light for the gospel in Canada. It’s why this important topic will be Clemenger’s focus at this year’s Ministry Leadership Day at Heritage College & Seminary, happening on Thursday, March 30.

He explains that it is essential for pastors and ministry leaders to understand what is happening in the cultural landscape so they can properly equip their congregations to live faithfully amid this unique, national context.

“Jesus expects his followers to be able to read the signs of the times in order to anticipate and prepare for challenges and opportunities,” says Clemenger. “Living in a religiously diverse society requires us to understand the gods, idols, philosophies, and ideologies of our times so that we are able to engage faithfully and not be swayed or unknowingly absorb the beliefs and patterns that prevail in our society.”

It is also essential for churches to understand the cultural perspective in Canada because of the impact that it is already having on evangelical Christians today. Clemenger titles this new perspective as a new orthodoxy—or a set of doctrines and commitments that are increasingly shaping not only government policy and influencing Canadian society. From the rapid expansion of Medical Assistance in Dying policies to societal views on topics like human sexuality and the freedom of conscience and religion, he says this new orthodoxy has not only influenced societal thinking, but adherence to these values has become an expectation.

According to Rick Hiemstra, Director of Research and Media Relations at the EFC—who will also be presenting at Ministry Leadership Day—this new orthodoxy has even influenced how evangelicals approach and understand evangelism.

“Evangelicals often feel evangelism is improper or impolite or harmful even as they deal with the cognitive dissonance of at the same time believing they should share their faith,” says Hiemstra. “This results in all kinds of outreach that skirt around any kind of propositional proclamation of Christ or a call to give one’s life to Christ.”

Though this cultural landscape comes with significant challenges, Clemenger says there is hope for the church in Canada today to continue to be a beacon of light for the gospel. He believes that if the church is faithful to live as the body of Christ and as witnesses of the coming Kingdom, in and through our life together and our ministry to others, we can point this culture to Christ.

“Amidst a culture that champions individual autonomy and choice, and in a time of polarization, uncertainty, and angst, the church body of Christ offers an alternative community of fellowship, hope, and belonging which honours the dignity of all and calls each to repentance and a new life in Christ,” says Clemenger. “Our witness is truly counter-cultural as we live as citizens of God’s kingdom and bear witness to God’s goodness, love, and grace.”

Take this spring and summer to grow your knowledge of God’s Word at Heritage College & Seminary. Registration is now open for our Spring & Summer Semester for 2023.

Starting this May, Heritage will offer several classes on many topics during the semester. These classes not only offer students the opportunity to work on their degrees over the summer but also provides those in the church a chance to gain a deep knowledge of God and His Word.

Classes can be taken for credit or by lifelong students who want the opportunity to study the Bible, learn more about a topic, or desire to discover what learning at Heritage is like through taking courses as non-credit students.

Also, students can take classes in several formats— ranging from in-person at Heritage to asynchronous online or synchronous hybrid learning delivered through live streaming.

The flags are up in the Chapel, and The H is all decorated and ready for what is going to be another incredible year at Missions Conference 2023.

From February 6-8, Heritage students will dive deep into what it means to reach the unreached and how to live that out in their own lives during this year’s event. This year, the main speakers for the event will be Rob Magwood from SEND International and John Taylor from ABWE, who will teach students about caring about, sending to, engaging with, and going to the unreached with the gospel around the world.

Throughout the event, students will also learn from and connect with representatives of several mission organizations who will be available to talk to and learn from in the Student Centre. Representatives will also be presenting on a variety of topics related to missions during several breakout seminars.

This year’s event will also mark the return of the ever-popular International Dinner and Cake Auction, where participants will have fun bidding on several cakes raising funds for student summer missions.

The conference will again conclude with the Heritage International Soccer Tournament held on Wednesday night.

Many books and studies are focused on understanding and teaching the theology of Paul. However, for Professor of Church History at Heritage Theological Seminary Dr. Michael Azad A.G. Haykin, it is crucial for him to look at the life of the apostle, delving into what we can learn from the person God used to help establish the early church and spread the gospel throughout the world.

In his latest book—and the most recent release from the imprint Heritage Seminary Press—Paul and His Christian Mission, Haykin sets out to provide readers with a concise but rich study of the life of Paul, the man and the missionary. In doing so, he sets out to display the apostle as a model for the Christian life today and hopes that Christians today would grow through learning from his love for the gospel and people.

"We learn from Paul’s total, wholehearted commitment to Christ and his kingdom,” says Haykin. “Then, his love for people. This was a radical change from when he was a Pharisee and believed that God could be served by killing apostates to Judaism. From a man of religious hate and violence to a man of love.”

One of the book's more unique elements is that a study guide is included at the end of each chapter. Haykin explains that including this feature was important given his desire to create a resource that can be used in both the seminary classroom and the local church.

“I really want the book to be studied by individuals and groups with a hope that some of the fundamental aims of Paul’s life will again be replicated in today’s churches,” says Haykin.
