Barry-small Dr. Barry H. Howson

Theology & Church History, Barry graduated with a Master of Divinity from Central Baptist Seminary, Toronto in 1984, and in 2000 with his PhD in Church History at McGill University. He has been a professor at Heritage since 2001, primarily teaching in the areas of theology, NT Bible, worldviews/apologetcs and Church history. Since 1980 he has been involved in the local church as a youth pastor and lead pastor, as well as an interim pastor, helping churches in transition. He is currently the teaching pastor a Heritage Fellowship Baptist Church in Ancaster, Ontario. He is married to Sharon, and has two daughters, Natalie and Shawna.

Joel-small Dr. Joel Barker
Biblical Studies, Joel graduated with a PhD in Christian Theology from McMaster Divinity College in 2011, focusing on the Old Testament and Hebrew. He has been a professor at Heritage since 2011, teaching primarily in the areas of Biblical Studies, hermeneutics, and the ancient context of Scripture. Joel is the author of several articles exploring the rhetorical style and strategy of Old Testament prophets. His dissertation, From the Depths of Despair to the Promise of Presence: A Rhetorical Reading of the Book of Joel , was published by Eisenbrauns in 2014. He is married to Karen, and has three children, Abigail, Hannah, and Isaac.

Cyril_Guerette Dr. Cyril Guerette
Theology and Philosophy Growing up in Sarnia, Cyril attended Heritage College from 1994-1998, and received a BTh in Theology (Summa Cum Laude).  He then went overseas to the UK to complete a Master of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge.  Returning home, Cyril began his PhD studies whilst working as a professor at Heritage.  He has since completed his doctoral work at Toronto School of Theology (in the University of Toronto), while lecturing for over a decade on various subjects including Biblical Hermeneutics, Introduction to Philosophy, Ethics, Theology of Missions, Philosophy of Religion, Spiritual Formation, and more.  Dr. Guerette also serves as Senior Pastor of FreeChurch Toronto, in the downtown heart of Canada’s largest city, working on staff since 2006. He has a chapter published in “Letters to a Future Church” (IVP, 2012) and has spoken at major conferences including the American Academy of Religion and the Canadian Society for Aesthetics. His media appearances include 100 Huntley St., Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, CBC Radio, NewsTalk 1010, and others.  He also serves on the executive team for the Fluid Gathering, an annual conference geared towards equipping young adults as disciples of Christ.  Cyril lives in Toronto with his wife Maegan, and their three children: Dominic, Justus, and Selah.

Frank-small Frank Vander Meulen
Director of Intercultural Studies, Frank & Eleanor taught at New Tribes Mission’s school for missionary children in Panama for two years and then returned to Canada for training to be church planters in Panama. The Lord changed their plans so that they served fifteen years at NTM-Canada’s head office in Durham, Ontario. Frank’s ministries included years in the finance office followed by a blend of general administration, church-relations, member-care, and leadership which included correspondence and visits with missionaries on three continents. They have also been very involved in their local church so that Frank’s twenty years of ministry have consisted of mission work and local church ministry, concurrently. Frank earned a BRE (Christian Ed.) from Tyndale University College, Toronto (1992) and an MDiv (Intercultural Studies) from Heritage Seminary (2014). He is presently working on a DMin (Missions & Evangelism) from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Frank has been married to Eleanor since 1991 and they have three children, Jared, Scott, and Sophia.Degrees:

Doug Dr. Douglas A. Thomson
Director of Music & Worship Studies, Doug holds a B.A. in music from The University of Western Ontario, a Masters Degree in Theology from Tyndale University College and a Masters Degree in Music (choral conducting) from the University of Hartford, eventually studying briefly with the world renowned Maestro Robert Shaw at Furman University in South Carolina.  He also has an Associate Diploma in Piano Performance from Western Ontario Conservatory of Music, and a Licentiate Diploma in piano performance from Trinity College, England and a doctorate in worship studies from the Webber Institute for Worship Studies in Florida.Dr. Thomson has taught at AlmaCollege in St. Thomas and at the Western Ontario Conservatory of Music in London.   He presently heads the Music Department at Heritage College and serves as the interim director Music and Worship at Benton Street Baptist Church, Kitchener, having formerly served for nearly fifteen years in the same capacity at Forward Baptist Church, Cambridge.Over the years Doug has been involved in many local concerts, several of which as conductor of massed choirs to packed audiences at Centennial Hall and Alumni Hall in London and the Waterloo Recreation Complex and the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. In 2009, Doug brought the famous Wagnerian tenor Ben Heppner to Cambridge, and along with an alumni choir presented a concert to benefit Heritage College. In the same year, in recognition of his contribution to music in the community including his active role on the board of the Cambridge Community Orchestra, and the hiring of their first professional conductor, he was nominated for the Bernice Adams Music Award given by the City of Cambridge. In addition to teaching and performing, he remains active as an adjudicator, clinician, and conference speaker.

Marianne-small Marianne Vanderboom
After teaching for 10 years in Christian elementary schools, Marianne returned to studies and graduated from Heritage with a Bachelor of Religious Studies in 2004 and a Master of Divinity – Research in 2008.  She was part of the adjunct faculty at Heritage from 2005-2009, and returned to the school in 2011, overseeing programs and teaching in areas of church ministry.  Since 1997, she has been involved in local church ministries as both a volunteer and as paid staff, teaching adult Sunday school, overseeing children’s ministry, working at summer camps, and involved in weekly care ministry.  She is currently involved in a parachurch ministry to at-risk youth and women who are coming out of abusive backgrounds, using horses to help bring healing.  Her horse, her German shepherd, and her love of books keep her busy when she’s not working.
